Superb Spa Stayover

We booked our stay last minute through Wowcher, and we had a brilliant time. Our package includes a night's stay, a contribution towards dinner, and breakfast with access to the spa facilities. All staff were so helpful, and welcoming and couldn't do enough. Room was facing to the beautiful grounds, with comfortable bed and was clean. Spa facilities were nice, the steam room wasn't working but rest of facilities were fine. We paid extra to have massage treatments, which were excellent and so relaxing. Lovely lunch at the 1630 bar and dinner at the restaurant, our favourite part of the stay was dinner. The restaurant is elegant and Alex and Calvin were exemplary in their service, so warm and attentive. Food was so so so good, we had starters of Octopus, and mains of belly pork and lamb, the presentation was like a Michelin-style restaurant, and the food was delicious. We were told the chefs were both Italian. Excellent, service from all the staff at the 1630 bar. Coping with Wedding guests and hotel guests. Recommendations: We wanted to book afternoon tea as part of using spa and massages, but you can't book it with one person, you have to go through multiple different lines on the phone. There's an opportunity to upsell, as ideally I wanted to speak/email across to book afternoon tea, massages and other things. But with work didn't have time to ring separate lines to organise the day. Maybe offer guests opportunity to email across to add extras to their stay? Also locally, advertise how good the food is at your restaurant, as many locals have the impression that food has gone down hill but actually its superb :)

Nice enough hotel for work with awful bedclothes.

Spent a few days here on business. Perfectly nice hotel in pretty enough surrounds with nice staff. Rooms a bit tired but bathrooms nice. Plugs by beds - yay. Pillows and duvet obscenely awful though. Unbreathable, Synthetic duvet on a warm night just such a poor attention to detail and the pillows all four the same rock solid lump of foam. Kind of unforgivable in a business designed largely as a place to sleep. Management should really spend a night in their beds once in a while and think about what they’ve got at home and then transfer that to their establishment.

Disappointing

Really looking forward to a relaxing Spa day with my daughter with a cream tea. When we got there a parent and baby class was going on in the pool so that was a shock. I think we should have been warned about this at least. We re-located to the spa section, nearly slipping over on the floor. The steam room was very un-steamy and needed fixing, the aroma room was out of order and the ice room wasn't very cold. We then went for the cream tea which consisted of one scone each and some jam and cream. No sandwiches, not even a second scone. I was really disappointed. It's such a shame because the building and grounds are beautiful and the place has a lot of potential. The staff were pleasant enough.....polite in the Spa and nice in the bar.

I am sorry that the class has affected your visit at our leisure center as being a family friendly hotel, we do have babies and toddlers swimming classes. We are undertaking a number of maintenance projects in the coming months which will assist in the uplifting of the leisure centre facilities. I truly hope that perhaps you may be able to notice this perhaps next time you may visit. Regarding the cream tea, I do apologize if perhaps you had the impression that our cream team which are included in our spa days include sandwiches. Our cream team only consists in scones, clotted cream and raspberry preserve. The sandwiches and selection of cakes are only included in our afternoon team. Please accept our apologies if this perhaps was not made clear on your arrival or upon purchasing the spa day package. Birthday Spa Day

Visited for a Spa Day for my partners birthday. Was a little worried as had read some of the negative reviews but wasn't disappointed. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, they were very attentive and made the day go smoothly. We were given our towels, robes and slippers when we got there and asked what we would like for our lunch. Yes, it's not an upgrade, you just get sandwiches and crisps but I also ordered fries to go with them which I had to pay for, which was fine. We firstly used the gym which was great, plenty of machines and equipment to use, was very quiet so had the run of the place. We then had our lunch, we went to the bar and the staff there were very professional, there was some confusion as our order had not been put through but that didn't cause any issue as it came quite quickly. Sandwiches and crisps were nice, but I'm glad we ordered the fries as it was just a sandwich crisps and a little salad, although the presentation was good. After lunch we went into the pool area. I had read that most of the facilities weren't working, but the jacuzzi was and the two saunas but that was it, it's a shame really as they have such a good thermal suite, it's just not being utilised. Didn't bother us though. You can sit around the pool area and we just timed it right as a mother and baby class had just finished and the area was quiet. We were there from around 1.30 to 3pm, and there were no swim classes on. We then changed into our robes and went to the spa area, so quiet and tranquil. We had the restore package so had a facial and back massage. I must say the ladies that gave us the treatments are a credit to the hotel, I wish I had taken their names so I could recommend them, but they were extremely professional, polite and the treatments were amazing! The room we were in was so quite and peaceful too, I have had many massages where there have been people talking in the next room and doors banging, but this was so lovely and quiet. We then went to the relaxation room to chill for a while after our treatments. All in all, we had a wonderful day and I must thank everyone who made it so special. I know there have been quite a few negative reviews but not for us, and we will definitely be returning. Thank you everyone at the Spa and Leisure facilities for making my partners birthday a day to remember, in the right way.

Supposed to be a nice 40th treat

Some friends of mine had kindly booked a spa day for me for my 40th birthday. We arrived at 9.10am to be told upon arrival that the jacuzzi was out of order. We were really quite disappointed by this. No offer of a drink or snacks or where to get them if wanted. We didn't have a drink hot/cold for the duration. The changing rooms weren't very clean. Considering it was early in the day the shower area was vile. The smell of urine was strong. We continued through the pool area. Walking past the broken jacuzzi. No sense of warmth or luxury. The floors were very slippy. The robes were ridiculously small. After about 20 minutes in the pool area , the pool was closed off. We asked why and what was happening. To be told it was mother and toddler time. We were very shocked at this. We've paid to have nice relaxing day at a spa while our own children are at school. And now we are having to share the pool with a group of parents and children. We were actually flabbergasted. Had this been explained in the booking I can assure you we would not have booked at this property. We left and went into the spa part. Not feeling comfortable or relaxed with babies and young children in the pool. It was soon time for 2 of us to have our treatments. I had a massage and it was phenomenol. The blonde lady was very strong and worked on all parts if my body. It was wonderful. We left to get showered and dressed for afternoon tea. Again the changing rooms stunk of urine. I didn't even shower it felt dirty. I just got dressed and left. I went to the bar area and was greeted by a man called Chris. His customer skills were less than desirable. I asked how much a bottle of prosecco was. He told me, I then asked him how much for the single ones. He huffed and puffed back around the bar to get one to scan. He was rude. There was a lady being served infront of me. He was getting quite cross because he wanted the information printed out. Where as it doesn't state in the booking that it must be a paper copy. Anyway we finally moved on to be seating in a beautiful room. He asked the previous lady if there were any allergies. We were not asked this. I have an allergy to fish . My friend only eats cheese. I had to raise the issue about allergies. He wasn't happy, he said they are already pre made. Just really rather rude. Not only to us as a group but also to a couple next to us. Overall the food was OK. Cakey bits were good. Sandwiches weren't great. Anyway on a whole it really wasn't relaxing, calm. It was quite medioca. We would not return.
